BRIDEGROOM FROM NORWAY
Josephine's in-laws lived on a farm at Øverbygd in Norway. They drove all the way down from this little village 500 km above the Arctic Circle, crossing by ferry and on down through England to Knightwick, where their son Gunvald was to be married to Josephine Holland (my sister).
They came in their car with a caravan attached and had great fun finding their way through the English roads, where Birger's sons soon discovered that their father could not reverse with the caravan they were towing and at one stage they had to unhitch it and turn it around by hand.
Eventually they arrived and my parents were very glad to see them all arrive safely.
Birger and his wife Esta had brought their two sons with them Gunvald who was to marry my sister and his brother Bjørn, who was to be his bestman.

Gunvald had met Josephine in Denmark, where Jo had been teaching English. Gunvald had come there to study Civil Engineering and they both had finished up staying in the same place and this is how they met each other.

The wedding day arrived and we all went to the little Knightwick Church, just around the corner from where we all lived at the Post Office. There were a lot of our family and friends there and it must have been a little overwhelming for Gunvald and his family. When the service had ended and the newly weds left they were welcomed by a guard of honour outside the porch, by the local Girl Guides, of which Josephine had been a Lieutenant.

My brother Graham and I had been the ushers. I enjoyed it as it meant I got a new suit to wear.

Once all the photographs had been taken we all made our way to the little village hall at Whitbourne. Where my parents had arranged lots of food and drinks.
