During my research of the Jones family I went with my second cousins, Julia (Ganderton) and Jennifer (Ganderton) Morris, to Calverhall Church, in Shropshire. On arriving we immediately found this gravestone relating to two children of John Jones and Catherine (Lloyd) Jones our Great-great Grandparents. The 1871 and 1881 Census's had the family living at Cloverley Gardens They obviously were living there in 1854 when their son Thomas Lloyd Jones died aged 2 years, In 1871 John was 42 years old and Catherine 44 years old. This would make them 25 and 27 years old in 1854. If Thomas Lloyd Jones was their first child then they probably married in about 1851 Lizzie was a daughter who died but it was to difficult to see the date she died and also how old she was. These are two children who would not have been on the census' that I have found. This brings the total number of children known to have been born into this family to 12. |

Immediately next to the first grave stone of Thomas Lloyd Jones and Lizzie Jones was this magnificent granite grave stone giving in great detail all the information of our Great-great Grandparents and their third son Arthur Thomas Jones. (The 1871 and 1881 Census's have him as Thomas Arthur Jones!) The great thing about this headstone is that it also gives where they were living and in the case of our Great-great Grandfather also details of his date of birth as well as the date of when he died. Julia and I are kneeling by the gravestone which we were unable to read until I rubbed some soil over the text. In the larger photo of just the stone I have used photoshop to show how it would have looked originally.
