John Lloyd
Jones was my Great Grandfather. I now know a little more about
him than when I first saw the photographs below. In the first photograph
it shows him outside his own premises. I have no idea who the others
are one of them to his right may well be his father John Jones,
head gardner at Calverhall, Shropshire. His son John William Jones
may be the little boy standing by the driver of the charabanc. He
was my Grandfather and his sister Fanny May Jones married Charles
Hayward and their children were Norah, Mabel and Doris. They were
all cousins to my Mother. Mabel married Sid Ganderton and our family
have had a close relationship with them for years. I have looked
closely and it appears that they are wearing poppies so it may well
have been a Remembrance service that they had been to or were about
to go to when this photograph was taken.
John Lloyd Jones was my Grandfather's father, John William Jones,
who married Lucy Grubham one of six children to Philip and Eliza
Grubham. They were married at Knightwick Church, Worcestershire.
and had four children Frank, Reg, Rolly and Doris my mum. There is a great
photo below of four generations of the Jones Family. Sitting down
is John Lloyd Jones, stood to his left his son John William Jones
then on his right his Grandson Francis Cuthbert Jones who is holding
the Great-grandson Gordon Philip Lloyd Jones. The photograph
was taken on the lawn at the Post Office, Knightwick, Worcestershire.
Sat in the centre a very proud man with his waistcoat and white shirtsleeves. This is John L. Jones Licensed to sell Ale, Porter, Wines, Spirit and Tobacco. In the window is an advert for John Haig and Glen Leven Whisky. The door behind has a sign for Music and Dance. The Daimler was probably a Charabanc, it was registered in Manchester and the man standing by it was probably the driver. It may be that they were all about to go on a trip, or that they had just come back on it from somewhere. It would be nice to know where this Public House was as John was my Great Grandfather.
John Lloyd Jones
my great-grandfather (sitting down in the above photo) was the Landlord of a Public House
at some stage in his life.
The majority of it though he was a landscape
gardener.
His son John William Jones was sub-postmaster of the Post Office
at Knightwick. His eldest son Francis Cuthbert Jones married Amy Court from Doddenham, and owned the Esso Garage and Petrol Station at Broadwas-on-Teme.
Gordon Jones was their only son and they had one daughter Eileen.
The photograph on the left shows four generations of the Jones family.
