This photograph (circa. 1957) has my sister Josephine Lucy Holland (later Stenersen) and her friend Geraldine Chaplain (later Cooper) (representing Knightwick Girl Guides) at a rally with Princess Margaret. One of Princess Margaret's life-long passions was the Girl Guides. As a girl, she became a Brownie and in 1965 she became president of the Girl Guides, and was actively involved in modernising the organisation.

They are all standing outside Hindlip Hall. Worcestershire County Council purchased the building and about 48 acres of ground, as a Police Headquarters for the Worcestershire Constabulary in 1946, to replace the building in Castle Street, Worcester

The Princess was educated at home with her sister Princess Elizabeth. She learned to ride, enjoyed swimming and became a keen gardener.
She had a strong interest in music from an early age, taking piano lessons by the age of four and later becoming an accomplished pianist.

In 1937 she joined the Brownies, and when she was old enough enlisted in the Girl Guides.
She always maintained close links with Guiding, and, until her death, served as President and Chairman of the Council of the Girl Guides Association.
