A well known Yeadon couple Mr. And Mrs. Alfred Edward Newell, of 3 Warm Lane, Yeadon, celebrated their golden wedding on Sunday. They have lived in Yeadon since 1940. They formally lived in Baildon.

Mr. Newall (76) was born at Fewston, a member of a well known farming family. He worked as a farmer at Esholt until the outbreak of the last war, and then became a civilian driver for the Blackburn Aircraft Company based at Yeadon Airport. After the war he returned to the farming and worked for 22 years in the press house at Esholt Sewage works. In his younger days he played football with Esholt AFC.

Mrs. Alice Newall was for 10 years employed by Carter and Parker, Guiseley as a packer, and worked for seven years as an auxiliary nurse at High Royds Hospital and for 41/2 years as a night nurse at a private nursing home in Headingley.
They have three daughters, Mrs. Jean Rhodes, of North Rigton, Mrs. Sylvia Varney, of Otley and Mrs. Eileen Dixon, of Eccleshill; and two married sons, Mr. Donald Newall, of Queensway, Yeadon, and Mr. Edward Newall, of Brighouse. There are ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A family party was held at Yeadon Liberal Club on Friday and another family party at their home on Sunday. They received a bouquet of 50 golden roses from the family.
