Knightsford Bridge, Talbot Hotel and Post Office.

Photograph/card (Many thanks to Keith Boulton) I
f you just looked at the last photo of the Birmingham Anglers, then you can now clearly see the field they were in which is now the Talbot Hotel's carpark. This photo must be older as there is a hedge where the railings were in that photo, which are still in place there to day.

The house I was born at was the Post Office and you can see that clearly in the foreground. It is a time when the old bridge was still standing, this was the earlier one and the stansions were made of steel then, so I think photo is probably circa 1900 to 1915.

The orchard below the position the photograph was taken from was mainly Damson trees, which I used to help my dad and mum pick when I was old enough.
Dad had pigs in this orchard but unfortunately in 1967 an outbreak of 'Foot and Mouth' put an end to all this. I think dad managed to sell all the pigs 50 young ones and three sows! but the quarantine cost him much more than if he could have sold them earlier. The one thing I remember, was the pigs loved the damsons and a lot of them that fell to the ground would ferment, it was very funny to see them wobbling all over the place and falling over in their mud baths once they had become intoxicated by them.
