A great photo, showing just how many people had come to enjoy the spectacle of all the many hand built rafts and their crews leave on their way from the Ham Bridge to Knightsford Bridge.

Some great photos to remind those of us who have forgotten those care free days when there was more to do than just sitting down watching Netflix!

Pubs were at there best then and I'm pretty sure that it was the landlord of the Talbot Hotel at the time, Ken Beckett, who came up with the raft race idea.
Here you can see four valiant crew members about to take the daunting trip down river to Knightsford Bridge.
