It can reasonably claim to be one of the grandest and most beautiful churches in the area. Its size reflects the mediaeval prosperity of Brailes which was probably the third largest town in Warwickshire, at a time when Birmingham was just a hamlet. |

William Tovey, Gent. of Knightwick, living in 1543, was grandfather of William Tovey, B.D. of Knightwick; prebendary of Worcester, afterwards prebendary of Hereford; he died in March, 1598, leaving an only son, John Tovey, of Amblecot, near Stourbridge, father of Richard Tovey, a captain in the army of King Charles I, who died in 1661, leaving a son, Richard Tovey, who died in 1703, father of William Tovey, Esq. of Erdington and Little Aston, Staffordshire, born in 1719; married Elizabeth Twemlow, of Wednesbury, and by her, who died in 1754, left at his decease, 8th October, 1775. |
