Knightsford Bridge Hockey Rules - circa 1905-1910.

Knightwick is always full of surprises,
and the article above on the rules of the
Knightsford Bridge Hockey Club, c. 1905-1910
is no exception.

Thankyou to Peter Walker, who put the scan of
these rules in the 2022 Footprints magazine.

The drawing on left is from 1890 Victorian
times, and shows ladies playing Hockey, and
wearing their Tam o' Shanters.

  Most likely this 1904 Edwardian drawing, would
have described the Knightwick Hockey Teams
attire, which would have included the
Tam o' Shanters mentioned.

From this photo, one could imagine this being
perhaps the ham meadow next to the Talbot
Hotel.

I have done a little research on the members of the above committee, and fingers crossed most of it is correct.

Mrs Greensill was Ellen B. Greensill, the wife of James H. Greensill, who was a Surgeon; and they were both living in
Knightwick in 1901 [Ellen was 37 and James 42 years of age]. They had a cook working for them at this time,
Esther Elizabeth Grubham, who was my great aunt.

Miss Jones-Williams was possibly Violet Jones-Williams [b. 1879], the daughter of Thomas John and Francis Sophia
Elizabeth [nee Hooper] Jones Williams; and they lived at Wichenford.

Miss Kane would have been the daughter of the Rev. Richard Nathaniel Kane [Rector of Lower Sapey], and his wife
Mary Evans [nee Hill], the elder daughter of Thomas Rowley Hill Esq., {M.P. for City of Worcester 1874-85, J.P. and
D.L. co. Worcester, J.P. co. Hereford,
High Sheriff co. Worcester 1870, Alderman City of Worcester, Mayor of Worcester}.
Unfortunately which one of their daughters this is, I can not say. {It may have been, Kathleen Mary Hlil, b.1875;
Mabel Grace Kane, b. 1878; Sarah Joyce Kane, b. 1881; Margaret Fielding Kane, b. 1882; or Catherine Ellen Kane, b. 1884}.

Miss Wilson would have been the daughter of the Rev. Joseph Bowstead, and Catherine Eliza [nee Hill], Wilson.
Catherine Wilson was Mary Kane's younger sister, and the Miss Kane and Miss Wilson would have been cousins.
Unfortunately which one of their daughters this is, I can not say. {It may have been, Valence Mary Wilson, b. 1882;
Katherine Muriel Wilson, b. 1887; or Olivia Margaret Wilson, b. 1888}
. Which ever one it was, they would have all have
lived at the Rectory in Knightwick, as their father was rector of Doddenham and Knightwick from 1881 to 1910.

Rev A. L. E. Griffiths, as far as I could find out , was Rev. Arthur L. E. Griffiths, a Clergyman at Hallow and aged
31, in the 1901 Census. He died in 1914, aged 44.

Mr H. Jacomb, as far as I could find out, was William Horace Jacomb, born 8th April, 1880, in Huddersfield,
Yorkshire, and died 1913, Martley [district].

Mr. J. Walker, was John Walker, the son of Thomas Lawson, and Hannah Mary [neeGuest] Walker, and the
grandfather of Peter Walker. He lived and farmed at Knightwick Manor, and was also a Special Constable.
