Many thanks to Linda Wixey for all this information. My mother Doris (Jones) Holland was the grandaughter of Philip Grubham. Philip's brother was Richard Grubham who was married to Jane (Kettle) and May Grubham was one of their children. My mothers mum was Lucy (Grubham) Jones and May and Lucy were cousins.

George Bushell was born in 1885. [ 1885DEC Kings Norton 6c 424]
He was at home in 1891 as a schoolboy and in 1901 when he was listed as a groom

He married May Grubham and they had 8 children. GRO Ref. Marriage: 1909 JUN Birmingham 6d 148.
May was born in 1883 [1883DEC Martley 6c 275], the daughter of Richard Grubham & Jane Kettle.

The children of George & May Bushell

George Bushell, born c 1909and died at the age of 5 in 1914 [1914JUN Kings Norton 6d 19]

*Arthur Bushell, born 23 March 1910 and baptised on 8 April 1910 at Kings Heath. [1910JUN KN6c 3462]. He died in 1979 at the age of 69. [ 1979DEC Birmingham 32 0646]. He appeared in the 1939 Register of England & Wales].

Helen Bushell, born on 16 July 1911 and baptised on 29 September 1911 at Kings Heath [1911SEP KN6c 725 (Grubham)]. She married James P Mc Hugh in 1934 [1934MAR Birmingham 6d 485].

Margaret Bushell, born on 2 March 1913 and baptised on 28 March 1913 at Kings Heath. [1913JUN KN6d 18 (Grubham)]. Margaret appeared to have married twice; first to Lewis Davies with whom she had 5 or 6 children and second to William Woodward with whom she had 2 further children. William Woodward died before the 1939 Register of England & Wales as Margaret is described as a widow. A lot more detective work is needed here! Margaret died as Margaret Woodward in 1964 [1964MAR Birmingham 9c 468] at the age of 49.

*Amy Bushell, born on 28 April 1916 and baptised on 26 May 1916 at Kings Heath. [1916JUN KN6d 65 (Grubham)]. She married Marshall Sylvanus Weaver in 1936 [1936SEP Birmingham 6d 1324]. In the 1939 Register of England & Wales Amy & Marshall were living at 45 Rostivan Road, Birmingham. Amy’s date of birth was confirmed, and she was involved in unpaid domestic duties. Marshall was born on 25 February 1915 and was a sheet metal worker.

Ernest Bushell, born on 11 November 1917. [1918MAR KN6d 5 (Grubham)] He died in 1981 [1981DEC Birmingham 32 0021] at the age of 64.

Herbert Bushell, born on 13 January1919. [1919MAR KN6d 43 (Grubham)] He died on 7 July 1986 at 70 Dad’s Lane, Moseley [1986 JUN Birmingham 32 694].

James Bushell born on 3 March 1920. [1920JUN KN 6d 16 (Grubham)] James appeared in the UK Army Roll of Honour 1939-1945. The following information can be gleaned from it.  
James Bushell. Private. Death date 6 April 1945. Regiment Number 4037470. Residence: Birmingham. Served in the Infantry (Herefordshire Regiment in the Western Front Campaign 1944-1945.

He was buried in Hanover War Cemetery at Seelze, Lower Saxony, Germany Grave Ref: 15D18. He was 25 years old.

Ernest, Herbert, and James were baptised together on 10 September 1926 at Kings Heath.

George Bushell, the father, was a cocoa worker and lived at “The Cottage”, Brandwood Road in 1916; later he resided at 61 Brandwood Road (possibly the same house, two houses away from his mother’s) in 1926, and in 1948 according to Kelly’s Directory. Before 1916 he was described as a gardener of Brandwood Cottage, Kings Heath (1910,1911 and 1913).

George and May were employed by the Gem family of Brandwood House and lived in tied accommodation.

George Bushell died in 1957 at the age of 72 [ 1957DEC Birmingham 9c 699]

*Amy Bushell, was the daughter of George & May Bushell.
She married Marshall S. Weaver, in July 1936, Birmingham, Warwickshire.

They had four children:-

*Eileen F. Weaver - b. 1937 - Birmingham.
Margaret J. Weaver - b. 1938 - Birmingham. See story regarding Margaret and her death
Stanley C. Weaver - b. 1941 - Birmingham.
Ronald D. Weaver - b. 1944 - Birmingham.
