Bio: 969071 Flight Seageant, Air Gunner Christopher Derek Ainley Whitehead of The Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.  Son of Christopher Ainley Charles and Nora Doris Whitehead, Nee Streeter.  Husband of Vera May Whitehead.

Armstrong Whitworth Whitley P5092 of No19 Operational Training Unit took off from RAF Kinloss for a night bombing exercise over the Innes Links bombing range in Lossiemouth, Scotland, the crew all being from No36 Course.  At around midnight eye witnesses saw debris falling from the sky over the bombing range.  At daybreak the bulk of the wreckage was found near Innes House, the aircraft having broken into two sections.  The cause of the crash was put down to the photoflash exploding.
