D.L. Deputy Lieutenant
John Bickerton McKaig, joined the 6th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment in 1914.
He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1916 and commanded the 6th Rifle Battalion
in France and Belgium until the end of the war.



He was mentioned in Dispatches four times and awarded the D.S.O.
(Distinguished Service Order) and Bar. The Order was established for rewarding individual
instances of meritorious or distinguished service in war. It was a military order and usually
given for distinguished services during active operations against the enemy.
