The 0-4-2T no. 3574 on its way to Knightwick, in April 1939. I found this an interesting photo as my sister Josephine Holland was born on the 5th April, 1939, in Bridgenorth. Dad and mum lived near Bridgenorth and dad worked on the railways there shunting and other jobs.

The main tool of shunters working with hook-and-chain couplings was a shunting pole, which allowed the shunter to reach between wagons to fasten and unfasten couplings without having physically to go between the vehicles.
