Knightsford wooden bridge, photographed from the orchard of the doctors garden, that was replaced by an iron one in 1894. [Many thanks to Peter Walker]
The iron bridge had to be reinforced, by the addition of a central pier, to accommodate the heavy military traffic during WW2. However, this created a problem in catching debris during floods, and also created eddies that cut into the bank of the Talbot carpark. This was stabilized by the building of a stone wall at the same time as the new bridge was built; and after the old iron bridge was replaced by a new footbridge.
