Fire at Doddenham - Last night, about eight o'clock, a fire broke out on the farm of Mr. John
Drew, Doddenham. Flames were seen issuing from a barn containing a quantity of unthreshed
peas, beans, and oats. An alarm was at once given, and a messenger despatched to Worcester
for the Norwich Union staem fire engine. Meanwhile every assistance was rendered by the
neighbours. The farm-house is contiguous to the barn, and so threatening was the fire at one
time, fanned as it was by a north-westerly wind, that it was feared the house would become a
prey to the flames, and therefore the furniture was removed. On the arrival of the engine,
however, the fire was speedily got under. It smouldered during the night, and the engine
occasionally played on the smoking débris. The loss is covered by insurance. It is not known
how the fire originated.
