East Window - All Saints Church, Monkland.

The East window, at All Saints Church, Monkland, Herefordshire.

This was a gift of the compilers of hymns Ancient and Modern and depicts our Lord in Glory, with the Saints on either side and a very happy group of earthly singers, singing from a book on the bough of a tree, with shepherds piping etc., below and above angels with different musical instruments. The stained glass is the work of Hardmen.

Below the window is the Crucifix, sculptured in alabaster under a canopy of Purbeck marble. The figures to the left [north side] are the Blessed Virgin Mary and the 'other Mary' and the figures to the right [south side] are St. John and Mary Magdalene. The background is Salviati's mosaic.

My great uncle and aunt James Grubham and his wife to be Emily Mason would have stood below here on their wedding day, the 26th June, 1912.
