Sat in the middle is May Thomas, headmistress at Broadwas school. When I was there I always remember that she would take us periodically on a nature walk to see what we could all find. There were fields behind the school with ponds and we would often walk down the lane at the back of the school to these ponds where we would use nets to catch small insects etc. that lived there. I always remember the water boat men. I loved nature and loved to go on these walks and would always enjoy watching the bird life which was one of my hobbies. Here the children can be seen having there photo taken with Miss Thomas after one of these walks, I can see that quite a few of them have a posey which they had collected on their walk. Miss Thomas was Welsh and the country side was in her blood and she passed her love of it to us all.
